A young college student takes a part time job working for a psychiatrist and a social worker in their private practice. It would be her introduction to the world of medical billing. That young woman takes those skills and takes a full time job as a medical billing clerk at a community health center to support her young family. She strives and gains extensive knowledge not only in medical billing but in all the areas that support that discipline. She advances and becomes the Director of Patient Accounts where she oversees more than a dozen staff members who work as frontline clinical administrators, administrative support staff, billing staff and in referral management. She is an integral part the middle management team at the health center reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. She consistently interacts and collaborates with the other directors, her colleagues and members of upper management. She stays at the community health center for twenty-seven years. She takes a three-year break to explore other interests and ventures. Because she could, she did. It was remarkable. She re-enters the medical billing industry. This time it is as an account manager in a long-term, well established and successful medical billing company. She gains a new perspective. She continues to develop her craft in light of that new perspective. After four years, she decides it is time for a new venture. Over the course of those many years, she has had the opportunity to know and work with many professionals in the industry both personally and professionally. Along the way, she has come to respect and admire those clinicians who have dedicated their life’s work as mental health professionals providing help to those in need. She has fostered long-term relationships and developed new relationships with many professionals in and around the industry. Those same individuals have provided their expertise, knowledge and the support she needed to launch her business. She has become dedicated to performing meaningful work by collaborating with those in the mental health industry. My name is Anita L. Theberge and I am the founder and owner of The Behavioral Health Billing Collaborative, LLC. It is a medical billing company providing billing services, consultation, and administrative support services exclusively to mental health professionals.
